皇冠注册平台 The Kitooro Batakaka Twimuke group generated their biggest-ever profit from their maize crop.

Maize is hugely important to the people of Kabarole District of Uganda, both as food and as a cash crop.

On average, when we started this project, local farmers were planting two acres of maize each, from which they typically harvested around 1,000 kg.

But none of the farmers processed the maize and turned it into high-value produce like flour and animal feed.

We trained women maize farmers to use an ox-plough to prepare their land and use improved seeds. We also:

      • introduced drying racks to reduce post-harvest wastage
      • formed co-operative societies that will train women famers to produce finished products like bran, quality flour and briquettes.

These products could then be sold to earn extra money for household expenses, school and medical costs as well to help farmers buy additional land.

We worked with women’s farmer groups across Kabarole, funded by our groundbreaking Maendeleo Agricultural Enterprise Fund.

We partnered with Kabarole District Farmers Association.
